WRS - Worker registration scheme

This section is designed for nationals of the new EU member states:

The citizens of Cyprus or Malta do not need to apply under the registration scheme.

Everyone who wants to come to the UK and work there without breaking the immigration rules needs to apply under the Worker Registration Scheme. If any of your family is non-EU national they have to apply for EEA family permit at the British Embassy in the country of their permanent residence.

Residence Permits

A residence permit proves that one lives legally in the UK under European Community law. Nationals of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia or Slovenia and may need to register under the Worker Registration Scheme and then apply for a residence permit. Usually a residence permit is issued for 5 years. In some cases the period can shorter. It concerns the applications of the persons who are working or studying in the UK less then a whole year.

Here is the list of possible reasons for application to be rejected:

Romanian and Bulgarian nationals

From 1st January 2007 citizens from Bulgaria and Romania will not require leave to enter or remain to reside legally in the UK . All Bulgarian and Romanian citizens will have a right of residence in any EU Member State for the first 3 months of residence on an unrestricted basis and remain legally resident in that state as long as they wish, providing they are exercising a treaty right as a student, a self-employed person, or if they are self-sufficient. They will not, however, have an automatic right to reside as a worker.
