Investor visa
Overview
The Investor Visa is normally initially granted for a period of two years. You should transfer the declared funds to the UK within three months after you have entered the country. You can apply for a visa extension for three more years after the initial two years. You will not normally face difficulties in extending your visa if the declared funds have been transferred to the UK within the three months of entering the UK.
If, when you wish to apply to extend your visa, the value of your investments has fallen below £750,000 because of market fluctuations, you may still be able to apply successfully for the Visa if the total value of your assets in the UK is at least £1 million.
After you have spent five years in the UK on an Investor Visa you may apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain for you and your dependants. After one more year you may apply for British citizenship for you and your dependants.
There are two routes to qualifying for an Investor Visa, as described below:
1. By having total net personal wealth of at least £2,000,000 (two million pounds), at least £1,000,000 (one million pounds) of which is disposable in the UK. This £1,000,000 (one million pounds) may include money loaned to you, provided that it is loaned by a financial institution regulated by the UK Financial Services Authority. If you have at least £2,000,000 (one million pounds) net worth anywhere in the world, and you wish to qualify for an Investor Visa under route 1, we can refer you to a bank with which we work closely.
The bank will offer you a package to assist you in the implementation of the £1,000,000 (one million pounds) investment requirement. The total cost of this financial package is limited to an "up front" fee £170,000. No monthly interest payments are required.
2. By having at least £1,000,000 (one million pounds) that you own absolutely, and which is disposable in the UK.
In either case, you must intend to invest at least £750,000 in the United Kingdom, either in Government bonds or in companies registered in the United Kingdom.
If you are granted an investor visa you may not take employment but you may take up self-employment .You must also intend to make the United Kingdom your main home.
